What sorts of issues does a sex therapist work with?

We work with people who have questions around their gender identity and/or sexuality.

This can include questioning traditional gender categories and how they apply to themselves, and exploring other gender identities through discussion.

Some people wish to talk about their sexuality and what it means to them. Others want to talk about kink, BDSM, or fetishes.

Others come to see us to discuss polyamory and other relationship configurations.

We work with people (individuals and couples) who are experiencing sexual issues that are impacting significantly on their lives:

  • painful sex

  • premature ejaculation

  • decreased desire for sex

  • a mismatch of libido between people in a relationship

  • problems with achieving or maintaining erections

  • sexual shame

  • concerns around the ability to orgasm

We work with people who want to talk about the effect of sexually transmitted infections, chronic disease, surgery or cancer on their sexual identity and relationships.

People with disabilities may come to see us to work through specificsexual issues.

People may come to us to discuss the effect of different life stages on their sexuality, sexual function and relationships.

We work with children, young people and adults who wish to work through the effects of sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse.

We also work with children and young people who have engaged in or experienced harmful sexual behaviours.
